Is there a button or output option in InDesign to convert a color image to b&w without having to pull the images into photoshop or something and then converting to bw?

Thanks.

hi johnlutz,

You can do this when you print your file. In the print options select 'output' and there you can change your settings to 'greyscale'.

If you want just one picture in greyscale you can use trhe following technique. Then choose the transparency palet. With the black rectangle stiil selected. Change the blending mode from 'normal' to 'colour'.

The image is still in colour but the blending mode gives it a greyscale look. By changing the colour of your rectangle you can create various types of colourizing your picture.

hope this helps

I can see how you do this by printing. I am wondering if there is an option when saving as a pdf. Also, I see what you are talking about with the transparency box. Does anyone else have any other ways of doing this? Thanks.

Not that I know of, unless they added it in 4. I use ID3.

If you have Acrobat you can print a postscript file, using Adobe pdf as the PPD. In the print dialog yu have the option of outputting grayscale. Then whne you distill that postscript, you get a grayscale pdf. That's what I always do for non color newspaper ads.

Using OSX 10.3.8 on a G4
