I have been attempting without much success to make the standard ASP.NET components look the same regardless of the theme the user has set in Windows. For example I always want my dropdownlist to look as it would if the Windows XP theme was selected, even if some users have the Windows Classic theme select instead.

I have been unable to do this? Any suggestions?

I'd save yourself the hassle and just accept it. Browsers, and especially form controls, can be styled quite differently depending on the operating system, chosen styles and colors and even resolution. There's not an awful lot you can do about it and could be more hassle than it's worth.
