How can I get a normal user to change the user details that make up what you see in the address book.
For example we need to update all the contact details, telephone numbers, office, address etc for about 3000 accounts. I sure as nuts am not going to be doing it so how can I delegate it to someone else without giving them full access to the Exchange server?

To do it manually(??) theyll have to be an Exchange Admin, and have access to the Exchange Administrator program.

But who'd do 3000 manually? You'd have to be insane! :)

Directory Export/Import is your friend. is the best place to start.

Feel free to post followup questions, I've done lots of this stuff.

You know sometimes you just need a kick up the arse. Dunno why I didnt think of importing the data myself. I have used the import function plenty of times (you actually helped me a while ago when I added a secondary email address for all users) too which makes it worse. Whenever I create multiple users I also use the import function - stupid stupid!
Ok so I will just use the header.exe file to export the fields i need and then get this other user to modify the csv file. Sweet.

No problem - sometimes the most obvious solution to our problems is the one we overlook.

Nah, there's a tool you can get for $300 a domain that allows users to update their own data.

I saw recommending it only the other day. I'll see if I can dig out the details from the brain.

Or google it. AD update exchange server? It was def a one off hit and then the onus is off the admin.

Yup except - this is still a NT4 enviroment so by the sounds of it your tool wont work. Thanks anyway.

If you are still on NT4 then export/import will sort you out. If you'd upgraded to 2000 and were running with ADC you could have done it. Ho hum.
