Hello,

I am new to photoshop and am having a bit of trouble learning the ropes. I have a website tempalte background in psd. I was able to update the wording and add my url. The trouble is the psd file is in greyscale. How do I change the color to say blue. I tried the bucket, but it fills in the whole thing and then you can't see the text. So I found some tutorial to make a copy and remove the text, but had some trouble.

So I would appreciate being sent in the right direction.

Thank you.

If you want to edit in color, the first step would be to make sure that the image mode is RGB in the 'Image' menu.

The rest of your questions are easily answered in the manual.

It is in RGB the background is grey sorry if that was confusing. I can't get anything to work. That is why I came here to ask. I have looked on forums at videos, etc and can't find how to do it. I do not have a manual and the adobe help just talks about the color palette. Where I change the color and nothing happens the background stays grey or it blacks out the lettering. So anyone who can help me I would appreciate it. What may seem like a dumb question to you is driving me nuts. It should be a simple thing, but it isn't working for me!

Yes, you do have a manual - - it is just not printed. Check your installation folder for a digital manual. If by some odd chance it did not install there, find it on the installer CD.

Your paint bucket can work if you explore the tool options. By default, it fills as 'normal'. You may have ideal results with a painting mode other than 'normal'.

Is the file layered? So that the background is below the text?
