Does it make a difference what the folder is called? My tech person says the folder doesn't need to be called cgi-bin it can be called scripts.

It depends on your web server. Usually you can configure your web server to run scripts from any folder you choose, such as 'scripts'. What web server are you using?

I'm not sure what web server were using. I will need to find out. Thank you for the quick reply.

I would ask whoever is responsible for the web server what you should make the directory called and what, if anything, you need to do to get the scripts in that directory to work.

perl -v from the terminal

This is perl, v5.8.1 built for darwin
the built for darwin will help you know what server type you have.

On a additional note if you are going to be using other peoples scripts use cgi-bin because that is what most servers are configured thusly most scripts written with static path would have to be changed for you to use them.
