CFGridColumn Boolean values

I have a CFGridColumn that I have set to

Select="yes"
Type="boolean"

the screen looks just like I (ok, the user) want it... now the big question. Anyone know what values I can expect in the variable? Numeric? Char??? Can I define it to be one or the other???
