cf comments

Does anyone know why you can't comment out cf statements? for example if I have

<!-- <cfquery ......>....</cfquery> -->
or <!-- <cfif...... -->

cf will run try to run the code in teh comments (<!-- -->). How can I fix this? It would make debugging alot easier. Thanks.

Commenting out CF code works if you use CF Comments. The comments shown above are HTML comment, not CF Comments. CF comments use 3 dashes whereas HTML use 2.
