Hi,

Are these Microsoft certifications useful in finding a job(for a jobless)? How difficult it is to get certified for an average VC++ programmer in both vc and VB(know very little vb)? What is the ideal way of preparing for certifications? How long it may take? any help will be greatly appreciated.

thanks,
lchig.

Helpfulness of certs on your resume: Probably more usefull than not having them. If an employer is looking for them on the resume and doesn't see them it could be the reason you don't get an interview

How hard are the certs to get?
That depends on how well you take tests, how much experence you have with the subject matter, and how much you have studied.

My suggestion, go to Google and search for free practice tests for the Microsoft Cert you want to obtain then download and try one out. See how much you know.

Check out Google for "free MS cert guides".

That should help you to figure out how hard the tests are and what level your skills are at. CJ

Don't drink and post, save that for driving home!

Regarding the c++ and vb certs - they're the same one, assuming your talking about programming.

I believe you can pass Desktop and Distributed exams in both languages, but you'll only have 1 MCSD. So you may want to get it in your strongest language and learn the other on your own. You can take the vb tests as well, but I don't think you'll add more certifications with them.

It depends on the certification. I spent hours and hours pursuing my MCSE and found it to be worthless in the job market. I honestly think I would have spent my time better simply "playing around" with stuff.

Using the technology is always the best way to learn.
A cert listing on a resume perks my interest while I am looking at them, but I like experience better than anything else..

The more I learn,I realize how much more there is to know!

I got my A+ in December of 1997. It took almost a year before I found a job with a serious employer. That was when things were supposedly good.

I got my MCSE on NT 4.0 in the spring of 2000. I was working a job I hated and went through countless interviews before I found another job with a serious employer.
