I'm graduating with a degree in Information Systems this spring and have started looking into getting a certification this summer. Can anyone point me in the right direction as far as what kind of certification to go after and how to go about doing it?

Thanks Chad

wiegertjd,

That really depends on the area of specialization that you feel comfortable working in.

Since this is the Microsoft certification and testing Forum, you might want to look over the list of Microsoft certifications at:

Wishdiak
A+, Network+, Security+, MCSA: Security 2003

I've checked out the link and think that I'm most interested in MCSE. What kinds of jobs will this certification help me get? Also what route should I go, should I take classes or is it possible to read the material on my own and pass the tests? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

There are lots of ways.

You can do it yourself from the books.
You can go on an expensive course.
You can buy Computer based training DVD's.
You can go on an accelerated boot camp course.

Which ever way you do it...it's hard work.
There is no easy way.

Well, there is one easy way... have two years hands-on experience...

But in my case, buying the stuff and doing it at home was more effective than classes... just be sure to start at the beginning and don't expect anyone to hand you anything for free... You'll do fine!!! A cert is usually easier than a degree...

Setnaffa is an MCSA-2k3 (working on MCSE-2k3) with a few other certs, too...
