I'm using AVG Anti-Virus and Outlook 2003 on my new laptop. Every email I receive I have an attachment that says:
"No virus found in this incoming message.
Checked by AVG - Version: 9.0.733 / Virus Database: 271.1.1/2675 - Release Date: 02/08/10 02:35:00" (insert appropriate date/time stamp here)
I do not need or want these attachments - does anyone know how to get rid of them? Thank you!!

Although it isn't an attachment, you can disable the scanning of incoming emails.
It is a feature of AVG to scan incoming emails through your mail client by default and it is harmless. It is letting you know that the email was scanned and is clean and is a good thing to let other people see it if you forward it off to someone with that stamp in the body.

To disable the scanner, open the AVG interface, then open the Email Scanner and uncheck both of the checkboxes for scanning incoming/outgoing emails.

Also, you can modify some of the options for email scanning by going to Tools-Advanced Settings and expanding the email scanner portion.

I would suggest leaving the options set as is.

Hope this helps.

Thank you so much for the help! I assumed that was the problem but was afraid to uncheck the "scan incoming emails" box, particularly since AVG gives me a "Not fully functional" note in red.
I looked for Tools-Advanced Settings in Outlook but I don't have that as an option in Outlook 2003.
So you're saying that it's safe for me NOT to have my emails scanned? What about viruses that come in through email?

What version of AVG are you using? The option has nothing to do with Outlook, but is all contained inside of AVG. I am running Version 9 free.

I didn't say it was ok not to scan incoming emails. I recommended that you kept your settings as is and let it scan your emails and stamp each one letting you know they have been scanned.

Rather than disable the scanning, which does exactly what it says, just disable the certification message. I'm not using AVG any more so I can't tell you exactly where it is in the options.

Hope this helps.

Sorry for my confusion. I'm also using AVG 9.0 free and have found the option in Tools / Advanced and unchecked "certify email". I'll have to receive emails to see if it works. I can't continue as it is, because I often need to search for real attachments, and these fake certification attachments make that impossible.
Thanks again for all the help! This is my first foray onto a forum and I'm happy to report that it's a fabulous experience.
