Have you fellas found that you can retain in your head the stuff covered in a Microsoft certificate? Or like me...do you find yourself creating large sets of examples and notes that you refer to when doing a real project?

The reason I ask is that I find after I have taken an exam, alot of the mental knowledge starts to slip away and if I didn't keep examples and notes, I'd be taking some topics from a zero point when I encountered them say a year later.

Ya know, it really depends on the subject. Almost everyone is going to forget a lot of stuff they learned for the test unless they use that knowledge. For instance, I learned a lot about dhcp while studying for my MCSE that I now have. The only problem is I havn't used DHCP in over three years. Because of the software in my current environment and my previous, I can't use dhcp. So I have forgotten alot about the specifics. The important thing is I still know the basics of how it works and how to set it up, anything I don't know I can find.
I think that a good knowledgeable IT person won't know everything but does know how to find the answers. IT people read way too much to remember everything.

I'd have to agree with Mr. Money. If you practice what you leared for the test it will stay with you. If you don't practice it you will forget pits and pieces.

Over the last yer or o I have come to the opinion that in IT, the two most important attributes are flexibility and the ability to find out what they need to accomplish a task.

Think how difficult it would be without the internet!
