I have (4) computers: (1) Vista, (2) XP ser pk 2, (1) Win2k and (1) Printserver.
-The Vista cant see anybody but yet I have internet and printer sharing throught the router.
-One XP cant see anyone but has internet/printer sharing. When I try to access workgroup it says permission denied, doesnt belong to workgroup or domain even though it used to work perfectly. Firewall is off. File/Printer shatin is on, set to low securty (troubleshooting purposes) but to no avail. It uses wireless connection to router. Installed micorsoft patches to be be able to see vista.
-One XP can see everyone (all machines). It has a hard iwred connection to router.
-Win2k cant see anyone but printserver. Has internet/printer sharing.

Day before yesterday this was working perfectly to where everyone could see each other. I have tried to duplicate the permissions for the XP that can see all machines but I must be missing some permissions that lie in a area of XP I am not familar with. There isnt anything in the router settings that jump put at me. Can someone please save me from this most painful ordeal. Thanks in advance.

I am simply amazed that no one is willing to help.

Sounds like a DNS issue. Make sure all your machines are resolving to the same DNS servers.

What happened since the time when everything worked? Router reboot? What kind of router? Is this only thru the VPN? In Vista (which sux, I think...lol), there is a setting, like to make it visible on the network, like network sharing in control panel or something. Can't remember---I wiped that puppy right off and put XP on...

I ended up posting this to another forum and it was solved (here in Tek-Tips). Thank you to those who have offered help but the issue was resolved. The problem was a firewall within the router with strange settings. I ended up re-setting the router (firewall off since I manage my own) and installed a patch on the XP's to see the Vista.

Funny thing about Vista is I have it working quite well. All the components I was told wouldnt work, do. Honestly I would have been just as happy if we would have stayed with XP. Thnx again.

Interesting...I use Norton 2006, which is not compatible with Vista. Also, I was having major problems with my version of Cisco VPN client. That's why I personally put XP on it. Glad it does work for you, and glad to hear it has since been worked out. Thank you for posting the solution.
