Certain Files Turn Off The Computer

Certain files, on a computer I am working with, are turning off the computer when accessed.

For eg (it's a bad eg), when she's playing "Zoo Tycoon" her computer will turn itself off after a while. On running a virus scan of the Zoo Tycoon directory (just to check), it would check a couple specific files (always the same ones) and then turn off the computer.

I'm pretty sure it's not a virus, but I could be mistaken.

Another example...watching a DVD, decided to randomly turn off after a while on that.

I think I'm quite sure it's not overheating, it doesn't get all that hot.

Any help would be FANTASTIC (I'm probably in the wrong Forum, so I'm very sorry)

I have no easy answer for you, but you might try the following:

1) Make sure that you aren't overheating (you might not be, but if you don't check.....)
2) Run a surface scan and/or other hard drive diags
3) Assuming that the hard drive is not using NTFS, boot to a floppy and dir /s on the hard drive. Try poking around the drive to see if it reboots.
4) Try using the system (as much as possible) in safe mode.

The above just might help you to narrow down the whole hardware vs software part of the equasion. Also, RAM would be something to check here.... Mudskipper

"she's playing zoo tycoon" **ahem** **ahem**

:)))

it sounds like your graphics display is acting up...what type of graphics card are you running and your computer specifications. If it is AGP it could just be a problem with your driver or you actual card.

OR

since you run virus scan and it turns off...it COULD be a virus...The zoo tycoon virus, very common among zoo owning millionaires

BTW its a good game i love all the tycoons especiall the rollercoaster ones [soapbox]
sleep is good
