Centralized VMS-Merlin Messaging 2.5: Maximum Number of Lines

In all of the documentation for Merlin Messaging, it shows the Maximum number of Lines is 80 per Merlin MESSAGING system, and goes on to state that is the maximum number of lines supported by Magix. Additionally, they do not really go into any information when using it as Centralized VMS...

So, if the Merlin Messaging system is part of a network and is providing Centralized VMS, is the maximum still 80 lines or could it be used to answer more?

The reason I am asking is I want to know is to see if it will be able to provide Automated Attendant service across both networked switches. Currently there are less than 80 trunks used for incoming calls between both switches, but I am concerned for possible future expansion.

Thank you in advance for your assistance! Hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving...

Great question. As a Legend/Magix geek since 4ever, I would stand on YOUR side and say that yes, you could answer more than the single-unit default of 80 lines in a networked situation.

Actually, I'll guarantee that you can pull this off. I'll buy your switch if it doesn't behave as I describe.

This week is tough, but I'd be happy to dial in and take a look if you have some loosy-goosy time with the customer (or straight remote access).

Thanks man, I DID have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Well, I don't know exactly what you are trying to do, but you really can have more lines in a system than 80.

However, you just can not USE more than 80 lines per system.

The Processor only sees the 1st 80 lines within the system. I have actually had systems with more than 80 lines, the last 8 of which were "B" Channels and the "D" Channel for the last T1 installed.

Needless to say, the "D" Channel was floating, and you couldn't access the last 7 "B" Channels.

Bottom line, you can put more than 80 lines in a system, they just won't all work. The system will not "SEE" them.

If you're networked with a point-to-point T1, that's 24 lines used on both systems, making each system capable of having 56 lines to the outside world. So you could have a total of 112 outside lines between the two systems. The Merlin Messaging won't care which line from which system it is answering, and you will be renumbering them from 801, 802, etc to something like 8101, 8102 (for system 1) and 8201, 8202, etc. (for system 2).

As long as you program them to hit the Merlin Messaging, all will be fine.
