Centering and display problems

I am a Dreamweaver newbie...I like designing webpages, but cannot do webmastering for the life of me.

The problem am having is I designed a web page that would look better centered on the page. I do not know how to do that in dreamweaver, so after I made my cuts in Adobe Image Ready and transfered them over to Dreamweaver I just selected them all and clicked on the "Center" button at the bottom of the dreamweaver bar. Once I put text on it, it has to look like this to be correctly aligned on the internet on my laptop:

After doing that I saw what it looked like on the internet on my laptop...and it looked like this:
Then when I went to another computer and looked at the site...and it was all skewed:

So essentially I am asking
1. what am I doing wrong?
2. how can I do it right?

I am new at this so I will try to understand as much as I can.

Embedd all of the content in a div tag and center that
