Cegetter download time?

I was just wondering what time you guys have your cegetter scripts running for.

If you dont know cegetter is a tool that updates your defs by manually connecting to symantec to download a def file daily...

My question is.. is there a set time they update it?.. or what do you guys think is the best time..

currently on my network we always have yesterdays defs.. I have my cegetter running at 11:00pm daily..I was thinking of setting it up for more then once daily.. but I dont want to do it if its not going to help..

Why not just use Symantec Antivirus 10, and continuous liveupdate? Then it will check for virus definitions as frequently as every 15 minutes and your virus definitions will update every day.

(NOTE: No, this does not work when you use Symantec Antivirus 9 server. Only SAV 10 server will download daily defs via liveupdate from liveupdate.symantec.com)

The virus definitions do not get released at a set time... it has been very hard to predict lately. Really.... get a SAV 10 server to download your defs via continuous liveupdate.

I ended up configuring XDBdown.cmd and I have it running once every hour now.

XDB will remember what update it got last and will not download it from the ftp if it already has it...

CEgetter would always download it if it needed it or not...

I'm not using continuous liveupdate because I dont need it polling our network every 15 min... AND its my understanding that liveupdate doesnt get all the most recent update.. (I'm not sure if that's true or not)

I figure I'll watch the XDB log.. and then when I get a handle on when the average defs are released I'll pull it back from running once an hour to only when they are releasing updates...

I always have had yesterdays defs with cegetter.. I'm just looking to improove my timing (before I was just looking nightly at 11pm)

- Symantec Antivirus 10 Serveer does get the latest defs. That was specifically changed for JUST this release of SAV.
- You do not need to poll every 15 minutes, you can change the interval to what you find necessary.

Forget about your timing. If you are going to check once a day, you are going to miss the boat at some point.

I use continuous liveupdate. It polls every 15 minutes and download a mere 200k. That's a couple of megs a day... and well.. I hope you have a T1 or broadband.

Continuous liveupdate works like a charm for me... have not had problems for months.
