Hello all :) [wiggle]

I am setting up a new web server with the above software. Yes, I know that CE8 is not supported on Apache/windows, But hey thats what ive got lets give it a go.

I am connecting to my web server over the lan, but when i try to access the reports, i get this message in the browser:

Communication Error
Communication failed with all configured Web Component Servers because they are disabled or not currently running. If this problem continues, please contact the system administrator.

All the crystal web services are running according to my server.

does anyone out there have this combination of software running successfully? Or, does anyone have any bright ideas for me [idea]??

Thanks [gorgeous]

btw, if it helps, here are the events as per nt event viewer:

Strange.. according to crystal configuration manager my wcs is fine.

Hi Tracey,
There's a reason why a patchy webserver on en-tee is not supported ;-)
One thing to remember here is that there are two parts to communication: the web connector on the web server and the wcs on the CE server. If the the webconnector (WC) is not configured correctly it can not talk to the WCS and reports back to the requestor that it can't find the WCS - the first error you are getting.
So just for kicks, install IIS on another machine and install the web components. Configure it to talk to your existing CE server and see if that works. If yes, you just want to keep banging your head against your patchy server. If it doesn't work and provided you configured IIS correctly, tinker with the CE server.
One thing I would check is the Enable/Disable button in the config manager. Are the all ENABLED as well as started?

Oh, dont know why i didnt think of that. Ok, with IIS installed CE8 has installed ok.
Of course i now have other problems to address (looping login, grey screens) but thank you for your brain-space on this one. (temporarily installing IIS) Of course i will continue to bang my head against my patchy server ;-) Its got to be better than inheriting an IIS worm ;-)

Create the entry :
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Seagate Software/8.0/Web Connector/WCSHosts

Create a String Entry
WCSHost
with the value say “CEWCS” which is your machine host name

The communication error disappears.

I already have an entry in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Seagate Software/8.0/Web Connector/WCSHosts
which is WCSHost0 set to my machine host name.

also a sub-directory WCSHost0 in which WCSHost is set to machine host name...

is this what you are saying I need?

I no longer have a permanent error message of course, but VERY often I have to restart all services because this message comes up. It would be nice to get over that :)
