Trying to install crystal enterprise 10. Logged on to the windows 2000 server through Remote Desktop Connection. Logged user has admin rights.

The initialization screen runs for about 2 minutes after starting the custom installation. In the custom installation 'web server connector' and the 'web component server' are not chosen for install. In the 'cluster with existing CMS' screen, chose 'No'.

After 2 minutes the following error messages shows up 'Setup failed to configure server. Refer to server error logs and setup error logs'

Anyone any idea which folder has these logs. Saw the log files under tomcat but could not figure out any specific error.

Anyone can help which log files I'm supposed to look or why this error comes up. Will appreciate any response.

thank you

Hi,
What browser ( IIS?) - why not install the most important components ( the Web Component, especially)?

PS - Installing over a Terminal Services connection can get 'iffy' for some reason..We use Funk's Proxy for remote installs or actually go to the server.

Just a note.

Thank you very much, Turkbear for your response.

Previously I had made a Full Java Installation of CE10 on a Windows 2000 and Windows 2000 Server systems with Tomcat 4 application server. They are running perfectly.

Looked up at the log file under Program Files\MS SQL Server\Data in the above system. Following are the last few lines in the file.

SQL server listening on TCP, Shared Memory, Named Pipes.
SQL Server is ready for client connections
Clearing tempdb database.
Starting up database 'tempdb'.
Recovery complete.
SQL global counter collection task is created.
Starting up database 'CE10'.

Looked up at the log file in the remote windows 2000 system we were trying to install. All the lines are sames except the last twolines. Following are the last few lines:

SQL server listening on TCP, Shared Memory, Named Pipes.
SQL Server is ready for client connections
Clearing tempdb database.
Starting up database 'tempdb'.
Recovery complete.
SQL global counter collection task is created.
auto exec procedure
closing down from remote control service manager

As you had mentioned it does look something's up installing the MSDE over the terminal server connection. In the goolge search, I stumbled upon some site about the errors of installing MSDE engine over the remote connections. We have asked a personnel at the site to install directly on to the server. Will get back what happens.

For your question: 'What browser ( IIS?) - why not install the most important components ( the Web Component, especially)?'
Answer: We wanted to have the Full Java Installation on a Tomcat application server - to write Java codes later, like to have Java Bean as a datasource. Installed as per the Installation Guide for Full Java Installation.

once again thank you for your response.

Hi,

Correction:

The last three lines in the remote system goes like this

2004-11-17 15:16:42.91 spid4 SQL global counter collection task is created.
2004-11-17 15:16:42.94 spid4 Warning: override, autoexec procedures skipped.
2004-11-17 15:16:51.12 spid4 SQL Server is terminating due to 'stop' request from Service Control Manager.

Hi,

The person was able to install the CE10 directly on to the server.

But anyone knows any other workaround to install remotely without the 'error message'. Turksbear solution was Funk's proxy. How much are they. Does installing cause any problems as I read in the following link:

thanks

Hi,
Not sure about the cost of Funk's software( Host and Master).
The other factor, I believe, was that the CD was in the remote server's CD drive, not a mapped drive back to the local PC..This, as much as the connection type, may have been the key to sucess.
