Hi all,
Before I call BO tech support I thought I'd see if anyone here has dealt with this.
I have encountered an error I have never seen before..I imported some v8.5 Reports into our new v10 system ( I have done the same thing for many reports), and this time, some of the reports ( when attempting to preview from the CMC ) cause this error:
Code:
Error

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There was an error retrieving data from the server: Buffer too small for string or missing null byte.
All of the reports are accessing the same database tables.
It is not all of the imported reports and it happens even if I have opened the report in CR10 and resaved it in V10 format..It works fine in CR..Any ideas as to where to look?

Hi,
Odder and odder..

It only has that error when using the Preview option in the CMC..If I use EPortfolio or custom code, it runs fine..

Parameters? different viewer?

Whatever, it smells buggy.

Hi,
Thanks, but,
sorry..same viewer, same report, same parameters, same database, same connection type.
Works in EPortfolio and from our custom CSP/ASP page, but not from CMC..Preview

Does smell buggy...I'll see what happens after our next reboot for routine maintenance on Thursday..

Did you find the CE9 bug in the Knowledge Base dealing with a report that contains a parameter includes prompting text that
exceeds 255 characters? It was fixed in CE10, but your issue is just different enough it could be an unfixed manifestation.

Hi,
Thanks I'll check it out - My biggest confusion involves the fact that it only manifests itself in the CMC Preview function ( I think it is time to lok at its code)..

HI all,
BO Tech Support solved it!!

I had been using the Advanced DHTML viewer in the CMC, and they said to change to ActiveX - the advanced DHTML viewer apparently can throw odd errors..

Thanks to all who helped...

Hi,
Which?

In the CMC tech support indicated ActiveX, but for User access , including EPortfolio, it may be different..( we use the InterActive Viewer with the Report Factory in our custom pages and DHTML in EPortfolio ( which our users seldom use)
