I have an XP pro machine with IIS 5.1, Visual studio .NET 2003, SQL server 2000 and Crystal Reports AD 10 installed and all service packs/hotfixes have been applied from an Admin account.

Having installed CE 10 Embedded and rebooting and reapplying the latest hotfix. When I reboot again the crystal management server is stopped. Right clicking on it and selecting properties I get the following.

-----------------------------------------------------------
Server Name : MachineName.cms

Command : \\MachineName\C$\Program Files\Crystal Decisions\Enterprise 10\win32_x86\CrystalMS.exe -service -name MachineName.cms -restart -noauditor

Startup Type : Automatic

---Logon as ------------------------------------------------
System Account : true

UserName : Localsystem
Password : ******
Password : ******
------------------------------------------------------------
I have tried using administrator and my main user account (that has admin rights) in this space instead of the localsystem default but each time I try and start the CMS it stops almost immediately.

Any suggetions? Thanks in advance.

Yes, there are these two between the start and stop messages.

1> The root server reported an error Initialization Failure. (Reason: Unable to connect to the database using the provided connection string. Reason: [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Login failed for user 'username'.).

2> Internal error: An unknown exception has occurred. Programmer error subsystem not available before use

I am assuming that this is the CE10 ODBC link? I have made sure that 'username' exists as both a windows xp user and a sql server 2000 user but still get the same message.

Also there is no CE10 database in sql server, should the embedded version of CE create that database?

Hi,
Right-click on the CMS service entry ( when stopped, of course, which, in this case should be no problem)and
look at the information on the Configuration Tab..
Be sure the correct data source is set and, test that connection using the username you specified when creating it and which the CMS runs under.

Start the Crystal Configuration Manager (CCM) and right-click the Crystal Management Server. Select Properties. On the Cnfiguration tab you should see the ODBC name of the database as CMS Data Source. If this is missing, or to rebuild the database, click the Specify button. There will be an option to Recreate the current Data Source. Hopefully, this will get you going.

Thanks for your replies.
The datasource was fine, it tested ok.
I got an error when trying to recreate the database so I tried creating a blank database called CE10, recreate worked and I now have a running CMS.

It looks like crystal either didn't like my removing CE10 and sql server2k before reinstalling sql server and CE10 Embedded or it failed to create a CE10 database during both installations I tried (I didn't notice any messages).
