Our Server folks have CE 8.5 set up on a processor (nothing else on the box) running all processes (Job Server, Page Server, APS, etc). Currently our Job Server is set up to the default of Max 5 Jobs. We have an "Unlimited User" site license of CE. It seems to me that the Max Jobs should be WAY BIGGER than 5. Most of our reports are on-demand (Parameter driven) and typically we have "Group on Server" selected in our reports.

Does anyone have any experience in setting up CE to run as many reports as possible without users getting stuck in a queue?

You need to get the CE Sizing guide from your account executive. It has metrics in it to help you adequately size your installation. FYI, you'll need to sign a non-disclosure document to receive it since CD would much rather sell you expensive consulting services instead.

Thanks for the tip on the Sizing Guide, rhinok. I'll see if our guys have it or want to get it.

Does anybody have any other real world experience in "Pushing CE to the Max"? If so, what is your Max?

There are too many coefficients.

The processor, memory, amount of data being pulled, whether there's a conversion involved, graphics, the type of viewer, etc.

I have a 5 license agreement, and we often flatline the resources on our server with just 5 jobs running.

CD recommends setting the Job Server Max Jobs setting to 5 per processor. We have a CE 8.5 Pro running on a 2 dual processor boxes, each with 2 Job Servers, which have a max of 5 jobs. Due to our requirements, we need to schedule most reports to refresh every 2 hours, and the rest every 30 minutes. Our current number of reports that are scheduled is just over 400. Although this set up is no were near getting maxed, I have had to stop the services at times for different reasons. When I restarted them, it ran all 20 Child processes for 10 to 15 minutes to clear any missed reports, and ran fine. I have found that it uses more memory during that time than processor power.

I hope this helps
