Hi,

Using CR 8.5 / CE 8.5 / Oracle 8i

I have a fairly big report which generates 864 pages. When user tries to export it to Excel in CE, they get following error message, I guess because of lots of data.

-------------------
Your request was cancelled. Reasons for the cancellation are shut down of the server or inactivity. Pelase try again later. [On Cache/Page Server:Crystal-01.domain.cacheserver_4]
-----------------------

I have 4 Page Servers and "Minutes Before IDeal Job is closed" switch is set to 5. Can I change this value to 20 in all the 4 Page Servers. Will this change fix the problem. and Will there be any bad impact on server after this change. I use 2 CPU 2.04 GHZ Xeon Box, with 2 Gig Memory.
OR
Do I need to make some changes in Cache Server. Here are the Cache Server Settings in all 4 Cache Servers:
"Minutes Before IDeal Job is closed" = 20

For testing purpose, I open that instance in designer and it took lot of time to display the pre-generated data bacause of the sub report in the main report.

Please advice.

Thanks,

V

It does sound like a very inefficient report, try to eliminate the subreport and make sure that the Database->Show SQL Query accurately reflects all of the criteria in the record selection.

Changing the Crystal servers timeouts may help, although you may be experiencing a timeout on the database as well.

What does a lot of time equate to in terms of minutes?

Also, Excel does have row limits, depending upon the version, with CR 8.5 export I think it was 64,000, so you're probably OK there for now.

Thanks for the response synapsevampire.

Lot of time means, it takes around 5-6 minutes.

Thanks,

V

Have you tried SCHEDULING the report to EXCEL instead of exporting the instance that was rendered as a CR file?

It might perform better....

Scheduling to Excel will definately help but it is requirement from the clients that they want to see the output of report and export to Excel, PDF etc based on what they need.

Thanks for all the feedback
