Using CE 9 Standard, printing seems to now require an act of Congress to get done, whether in ePortfolio, or when using my preferred method of reporting, via URL. No printer icon shows when calling the report by URL, leaving the user's only option being to export to pdf and then print. Using the "preferred method" of ePortfolio is no better, since clicking the print icon leads one into an abyss of around 5 or 6 additional steps to print.

Using Crystal Reports 8 and CE 8, this was not a problem. Is there anyway around this issue BESIDES shelling out $20,000 plus for CE 9 Professional??? Or am I missing something obvious?

(Can you tell I am a little aggravated?) :)

Any suggestions? Has Crystal come to its senses and made a patch or add in that I do not know about? Please help, thanks!

Jason

what report viewer are you using? the default crviewer has the print button at the top...you can change the url output format to go to pdf, etc., and print from there. Have you reviewed the url options doc for your version?

thanks for the answer! i emailed Crystal Decisions and they gave me the info i needed:

the default viewer that comes up in CE 9 when you call the report from a URL is a DHTML viewer that does not have the print icon.

however, they told me that i can specify the viewer in the URL, and directed me to a pdf doc about URL reporting in CE 8. they said the information there also applied to CE 9, and sure enough, it worked. i can now call the active x viewer, with the familiar print icon.

i have been using Crystal since 1997, but only recently have i gotten into more exotic topics like putting parameters and other info in the URL. where do you find the supporting documents like the one you mentioned?

thanks again,

Jason

Hi,
On the Crystal Decisions support site:

there are links to the Knowledgebase and technical articles/white papers, etc..

Use the Self-Service support options to, for instance,
'Browse all technical briefs'

Very useful site...
