I am using CE 8, CR 8.5 and MAS 90/200. My company has several (50+) websites, but I am interested in only a few. I need to display the inventory info when an item on the web page is selected.

I have created the report in CR 8.5 and published with CE publisher. When I access the report to see it thru ePortfolio, it prompts me for a db signon and the inventory number.

I created a silent odbc connection for this report and used it in the report. Why is it prompting me for the user id and password? In addition, it will not sign onto the db as it needs the company code as part of the login.

What am I missing? A little bit you, a little bit me. [hippie]

When you place the report in CE, you need to set the connectivity for it. I can't recall the 8.0 screen, but I think one choice was to prompt for the database login, which you don't want.

I'm not sure about the Company Code concern, whatever logs you into the database is what you need in the user/PW.

I have been trying to connect a MAS 90 database using CR 8.5 and CE 8.0 I cannot get the reports to run in CE at all. All reports work fine in CR 8.5 I have tried to save reports with data, and still do not work. I have been able to get CE to display reports from a MDB only. I have contacted Seagate and they have not heard of MAS 90 (even though it is an OEM situation). What I need to know is... what did you have to do to get the reports from MAS 90 to work in CE? I have been spinning my wheels with Seagate, and I need some answers from someone who has done this. Thanks for any help!

I doubt that CE has anything to do with this problem. Keep in mind that CE 8.0 ships with MAS 90, so they do work together, and I doubt that it requires any special settings.

The prompts you're receiving may be the ODBC sign in (perhaps you omitted the database login when you published, or you checked that the user must sign in), AND a parameter from the report, though I'm not certain of this.

I think tht your problem is the way that you're loading the report into CE, try using the Crystal Management Console (CMC) instead of the publishing wizard. From within CMC you can edit objects (reports), thereby allowing you to control the settings in a more comfortable way.

Don't forget to hit the update buttons!

If this fails, I suggest that you create your own report from scratch which lists a small reference table in MAS 90.

Now bring the report into CE and make sure that you enter the database connectivity, there should be a database tab in there (I've already forgotten CE 8.0).

Oh, and I'll bet that MAS 90 supports CE too, since they're bundling now.

One of the issues with MAS 90 is that it is not a true database. It is a file based structure. Also, in order to handle multiple companies, they use a file structure that has data segregated by company code. So when you connect to the "database", you are required to pass in the company code. Yes, there is a special odbc driver that handles this and is used by CR.

My question is, why, if I setup the odbc driver to have the user id and password included so that the connection is automatic/silent, why is CE 8 propmting for the user id and password or is the user id/password for something else? A little bit you, a little bit me. [hippie]

Silly me. It is now working. When I originally created the odbc, I set it up as a user dsn. I changed it to a system dsn and it now works. I can see the report and the data.

Good to read.

When I used MAS 90, it used a SQL Server database, I think via a standard ODBC, which Oracle folk might argue in favor of it not being a real database, but...

I guess it's changed.

They were very protective of their technology then, I guess this is a natural extension.
