When I'm trying to install CE 10 Express on my MS 2003 server , I have troubles logging on to CMS. I tried various combinations of user id, passwords and authentication, and it still won't take it. What should I enter? I'm using the Informix ODBC connection instead of the default SQL server. It seems to me that the connection between CE and my data source is not setting up properly? By the way, my default web server is hosting more than one web applications. Any ideas to solve these problems? Thanks in advance

Hi,
In the CCM, do the CMS service and the Web Component Service start and run OK and are they enabled?

If so, then use administrator, no password and enterprise authentication to log into the CMS ( after getting in, if you do, immediately set an administrator password).

If the CMS service does not start, check the event Log for the application error that may be listed..Often it fails because the account that the CMS service is running under does not have sufficient rights to access the ODBC DSN or the files needed..

Thanks for your reply. The CMS service does not start but the other servers are running fine including web component. Sounds like that has something to do with my connection. I'm using system DSN IBM Informix driver. What kind of rights should I set for this connection? Thanks.

Hi,
Before working with permissions check a couple of things:

Did the event log have specific error information?

Check the configuration tab on the CMS service's properties..it is correctly set to use that DSN?

Also, be sure the DSN on the CE Server box is a SYSTEM one, so the account can access it..

I tried what you suggested but still have problems in connecting the CMS. The error message said "Failed to retrieve cluster name from the database. Database Access Failure". The event log said something like local computer may not have the necessary registry information...". By the way, I had installed and uninstalled the CE10 many times, will that affect the windows registry? I installed the CE 10 on D drive other than the default drive C. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks.
