CDRW started recording on its own

What on earth could cause a perfectly normal, not in
use CDRW Acer 12x8x32 to think it should be recording,
i.e. the RED LIGHT came on=comp froze up.
No recording here in at least a week, but plenty of freezes lately. Ran AVG, no virusi or trojans showing.

Am I in the twilight zone?

First thing I'd suspect is "spyware". Next, delete the drivers for the CDRW and reinstall. Something has to be telling it to start-up.

2. CD Program
3. Short in drive or drive cable.
