can someone help me out. I've just installed a cdrw drive and it seemed like it was working fine then the led light came on and stayed on. Nothin can be done with the drive and now it doesn't respond at all even after reboot. I've tried configuring the bios and alternate ide cables. They sometimes work for a minute, but then on comes the LED and back to nothing. Can anyone help me out?

Hi,

Can you tell me a little about the machine it is in? the OS it runs, is there another device on the same IDE channel (check the master & slave settings have been set correctly), that it is recognised by the BIOS etc.

John

running on a windows xp professional system. Some comp i got from a buddy. It's an older dell, with a 700mhz PIII on it. I have a cdrom on the secondary master and two hard drives on the primary, one master and of course the other slave. I've tried every possible configuration of cable and master/slave select i can think of. But the cdrw never shows in the bios. Sometimes it may work and then will freeze, i'll restart the comp and when i go into bios it's not there and no longer works. It's almost as if It can't reach it or something. I don't know. Someone help me out if you can. thanks a lot.

Hi,

Does the CD-RW work if you disconnect the CD-ROM? (ie so it is the only drive on the second channel?
