cdrom problem

I Have a ibm computer with 2 cdrom (1-dvd 2- cd-rw)
first I had windows ME and I format and tranfert to XP PRO.
After I see my 2 cdrom but later for no reason I lost my 2
cdrom. I had a exclamation in my hardware. Now I tried lot
a thing and I don't see anymore my cdrom in the hardware.
Plus, if I look in the bios, I see my hard disk and for
the IDE it's mark NONE. Last thing I did, I tried to reboot
with the 6 disks for XP it was ok until I have to put the
cd and start a new installation windows said he can't because
he do not see the cdrom device.
Now what I have to do for the bios see the cdrom in first.

Have you checked that the ribbon cables are attached to the motherboard and the CD-ROM's?

Sounds like jumpers. The hard drives and cd's jumpers have to be set correctly corresponding to which connector they are attached to on each ide cable.

The end connector on the ide cable is the slave and the middle one is the master. Make sure the hard drive is on the primary ide cable in the middle connector and the jumper is set to master. Make sure each cd's jumper matches it's location (master/slave)

I agree that it could be jumpers set incorrectly. But it does not matter which connector on the cable the drive is connected to. One device has to be set to master and the other to slave. I find it works better in most cases to have the hard drive set to master and have one of the CDs on the same cable set to slave. If you have two hard drives put the other one on the other cable as master and the second CD on that cable set as slave. If ther is only one device on the cable it should be set to master. Again, it does not matter which connector on the cable either device is connected to. You may have had a cable go bad if they were working before and quit. Try a new cable.

I had this problem once also, it was the Y splitter for the Power cable I added. It kept wiggling loose from the vibrations of the CD-rom. Check the power connections while you are at it.

I found my problem. I disconnected my 8080B and 8120B and connected only my 8120B and put the jumper at master.
Reboot the pc and it seen my cdrom dvd in the hardware.
I did the same for the 8080B and nothing happen and I can't
open the door in front like I haven't power. I proved my
cable with voltmeter for power--ok.
If I connected 2 cdrom (master-slave) I had no hardware.
Now I suspect my 8080B failed but at lease I have 1 cdrom
working.
Tank you every body help me on this trouble.
