Hi all,

This CDROM used to show in Windows fine.

The CDROM still shows in the BIOS ok and can read a bootable CD.

However when you get into Windows there is no sign of it in Device Manager or Disk Manager.

It did used to show up fine.

I have tried a System Restore.

I have tried reinstalling the IDE controller.

I have updated the motherboard drivers.

Any ideas what the problem is?

Thanks.

Have you tried uninstalling the device in Device manager, and reinstalling, or is it not showing there either?

Are you sure you don't have some form of malware that is causing the issue?

Another thought: just before this started happening, had you installed any new hardware device or software application?

Yeah, that sounds really odd.. Please do update when you're able.

This is really strange!!

Original CDROM in Original PC shows in BIOS but does not work in Windows

New CDROM in Original PC shows in BIOS and works in Windows

Original CDROM in different PC shows in BIOS and works in Windows

Original CDROM in Original PC booting into Linux shows the CDROM fine

So the long and short of all that - it doesn't appear to be a hardware issue, the Windows installation on the original PC is having a problem with this specific CDROM

Any ideas anyone?

This can happen when the UPPER and LOWER FILTER become corrupted...

and can be remedied by deleting these in the Registry and uninstalling the device from the device manager, and then rebooting...
