cdrom ejecting

hi,
I have a cdrom that keeps on ejecting at various times. It does it when I'm using different programs. And it will do it even if I'm not using the computer.
There aren't any error messages or anything.
Is this a hardware problem? or is there possibly an application making it go crazy?

Maybe you have a virus, check that, also check your cd burning software, try uninstalling and reinstalling it.

I had this once and it turned out to be dirty switch contacts in the unit.
Mounted somewhere in the top tray eject mechanism to sense what position the tray is in, I cleaned the contacts and stopped it's random opening. Martin Just trying to help, sometimes falling short, I am only human after all.

replacing it fixed the problem. I suspect that the senser is dirty, but it's not worth the time to fix at this point.
