hi

I have lost the root password & I found some tips in this forum saying to boot from cdrom, but now I am unable to boot from cdrom after typing "boot cdrom -s" as it gives "Boot device: /pci@1f,4000/SCSI.....Drive not ready" error.

If I login as an user(other than root) then the cdrom drive is working fine. Can anybody pl. help.

Thanks in advance

take your system down to the ok prompt
First do a probe-scsi , do you see the cdrom, if so then follow the below instructions. If cdrom not seen then find out why.

At the ok prompt run the devalias command and look for target 6 which is the cdrom. You can use that path to boot from.

ok devalias ( will list all the devices , look for target 6)

ok boot -s (get the full path from above)

hi, thanks for ur response

ok probe-scsi
(shows cdrom as target 2)

ok devalias
(shows cdrom path as /pci@1f,4000/scsi@3/disk@6,0:f)

ok boot /pci@1f,4000/scsi@3/disk@6,0:f -s
(still shows "drive not ready" error)

what could the problem?
pl. help.

Thanx

Your cdrom is set to ID 2 and the system looks for it at ID 6. You will have to change either the ID to 6 on the drive or your devalias to 2 so they match.

Code:
boot /pci@1f,4000/scsi@3/disk@2,0:f -s
