Please can someone can help me on this!
The cdrom in my laptop disappeared. Its not even detected in Bios and doesn't eject its tray(meaning no power).I checked the bios setting and its set to auto in secondary channel. The cdrom doesn't need a driver as stated by the manufacturer driver support site.
The cdrom is external and it does work in other laptops.

The siemens lifebook laptop specs are...
Intel Pentium 3 600 mhz
no floppy drive
windows 2000

Thanks

Sounds like a controller problem... check bios to ensure it's configured properly. if problem persists check warrenty if that has expired then you might want to consider backup and see if you can't get it repaired. Probably a bad controller.

Thanks Gloryhound for your help and advice.
I checked the bios and its set as default in the doecumentation provided. Its warranty has expired so I will look into its repair or simply will buy an external usb cdrom.
Thanks
