CDR8 hangs when saving files

I am experiencing CorelDraw8 locking up my system when I try to save, save as, or close the app. This is a new problem. I've used CDR8 hundreds of times with no *major* problems. I am using a Compaq 500 Mhz Pentium II with 392 Meg of RAM. There is 11 GB of hard disk available. Corel is configured to use 50% of RAM. This is frustrating... I'm trying to modify a .cdr file which I saved a few months ago. I can open the file, modify it, but cannot save. I've unloaded and reloaded CorelDraw twice, with and without the SP2 patch (396&433). I've cleaned the registry, defragged the disk, and gotten rid of extraneous temp files... ANY HELP would be appreciated.
