I hope this is a simple one. I have a 6M1 running oracle.
Once I've logged in on the console, it takes CDE about 5-10 minutes to present the desktop, anyone got any ideas about this? All my other boxes start in a few seconds.

Check the hosts file to see if the host is there and has the correct ip numbers.

Mike,

Usually when this happens to me, it is because there is something wrong with the networking settings. Double-check the settings, especially resolv.conf. There was one time when I had to enter the domain name manually. Don't know what I did wrong that time, but it slowed things down until I put it in there.

If using DNS you should also check /etc/netsvc.conf to ensure that lookups are first done using /etc/hosts. Mine contains:
hosts=local4,bind

man netsvc.conf for further details.

It was indeed network related, added entry to /etc/netsvc.conf as sectorseveng suggested. Thanks for the help --
