CDE on p650 Console

Hi folks,

we have a new p650 which appears to boot OK (I can telnet to it, stop and start Oracle etc), but when trying to login at the console, CDE tries to start, but then immediately goes back to the login screen. Has anyone any advice as to where to start looking for a possible problem with CDE on the console. As I say, I can login to a normal telnet session, so have no problems if any config files need to be edited. TIA.

Generaly this type of problem commes from a bad name resolution.

Have a look to your /etc/hosts file or to your DNS configuration.

Is your machine correctly declared in /etc/hosts and is the dns reachable ??

Thanks for the response. Turns out it was because the DISPLAY variable had been set in root's .profile and conflicted with CDE. You live and learn. Cheers.
