CD writer not detected

I have just installed Veritas Backup Exec v4.5 on my new computer running under WinMe and it will not detect the CDROM writer, and just gives the File option, although the CDROM writer is 'seen' by Windows and Nero works fine with it.

In my old machine, also WinMe, Veritas auto detects and works fine with the CDROM writer. The manufacturer's technical support has never heard of this problem (sic).

Both CDROM writers are TEAC.

If anyone has any ideas they would be gratefully received.
