want to install a CD-Writer as a backup solution, however SCO Unix 5.0.1 Enterprise editiion doesnt seem to support this device. Havent found any drivers or a way to install a writer, Is there a particular brand or model of writer that is supported ?

There's no such version as 5.0.1.

Openserver went from 5.0.0 to 5.0.2. The other versions out are 5.0.4, 5.0.5, 5.0.6.

Now, why in the world would you want to backup on CD? You can only get about a GB max
(using compression).

And CD burners really need a dedicated data stream to be happy. Remember that Unix constantly is doing tasks in the background even if no one else is logged in.

But, if you must - check out the Caldera (SCO's new name) skunkware web site for CD Burner software. (I *think* they require 5.0.4 at a minimum).
