CD-RW probelm (cant figure out why or what!)

I was burnin a cd and at the middle of it, it said there has been an error and ruined my cd. so I tried to put another cd in, but it wouldnt accept it and kept rejecting the new cd. so I reboot the box and now it doesnt reject but simply wont read or recognize any cds inside saying the drive is empty! I re-installed the drive but it didnt help at all.
so now, WinXP has no sign of error on my Lite-On but the drive doesnt work. I was trying to reinstall my Nero software but as soon as I put the Nero cd inside my DVD-ROM the system crashed.
I've got no clue what the problem might be, cuz I wasnt doin anythin during the buring process. also I have not installed any new drive or any new burning software.
I'd really appreciate some help over here.

Reboot.

Re-install Nero.
