Do CD-RW's act like floppies?

They act like floppies in that files can be copied to them and deleted from them. They also act like floppies in that they do not last forever. I've heard claims that they can be read and written 1000 times. I don't know if they can be reformatted and continue to be used, as floppies can (though usually with the development of defective sectors, over time).

CDRWS can be used as a floppy provided you have the packet writing software installed on your system.

for example: incd

Nero and easy cd creator both have packet writing software as part of the package.

I have had some success reformatting cdrws and reusing them but as richinminn said the actual lifespan is the great unknown factor.
