In my /etc/fstab file, my HP cd-rw is being mounted exactly like my regular cdrom drive, read only and using the same block file in /dev. I'm kind of a newbie in Linux, how would I configure my cd burner to work right?
Thanks for any help!!

Hi,

You don't mount it for burning. As far as I know, linux does not yet have any software for packet writing of CDRWs, i.e. where you treat the CDRW as what amounts to a hard disk and can copy individual files across. The windoze software for this is adaptec direct-cd and the prassi s/w from nero, etc.

You can write to a CDRW but only in the same way as you can write to a CDR, i.e. as a iso 9660 image. The difference is that CDRWs can be erased and re-written to.

Most people would use a gui burning tool like Gcombust ( or XCDRoast (
