cd rom will not play

I installed win 98 and after I had the o/s up and running
I went to install my software ( office, easy cd, ect )but both the cd player & burner will not play. When I open my computer the cd icon showes the program as an audio cd but will not play ?

Do you have the CD-ROM drive and CD Burner chained on the same cable? If so, I would set them as Masters on different controllers and see if that resolves your problem.
