I have a RS/6000 43P running AIX v4.1, the original cdrom drive that came with the system does not work anymore so I have pulled out an old SCSI cdrom drive and have installed it in the system, deleted the IBM CDROM configuration and installed the new one, aix reports that the cdrom is available, and I have created a file system from the new unit /cdrom using device cd0. the problem comes whenever I go to mount the cd the computer just freezes on me and all I can do is turn it off and on to get the system to start again. I was wondering if anyone has had a similar problem, or offer any help. Any suggestions would be muchly appreciated.

I am not sure, but isn't most RS/6000 hardware proprietary?
Is the cdrom you put in from a RS/6000? Says the Manager to the person that invented the modem: "Tell me again why you need two prototypes?!?"

Sounds as you may also have a SCSI conflict. AIX will find multiple devices with the same SCSI number. I would do a
lscfg|grep and find out if you have more than one decices with the same number.

Skeater has a good idea... try changing the SCSI ID (the PUN) of the CD unit.
I hope it works...
Unix was made by and for smart people.
