About two weeks ago I bought Microsoft's Flight Simulator 2000. I played around with it for a few days and decided it was time for a new joystick. So I bought one but had some configuration problems with it. One of the help docs on Microsoft suggested reinstalling the game. So I uninstalled it and now my CD-ROM won't read the CD to reinstall (either of FS2000 CDs, there are two). It reads everything else I put into it, including audio cds but not these two CDs.
This of course is driving me crazy. I've gone through all of Microsoft's help docs that I could find but nothing helped. I tried to reinstall the drive and drivers, even finding a few to upgrade. The kicker to all this is, for me to report a problem to Microsoft, I have to have the Product ID, which requires me to have the game installed. And I can't take it back to the store, as I sent my receipt in for a rebate that came with the game -- argh!
Does this sound like a problem with the game or an early sign my CD-ROM is kicking the bucket? Its a 52x by IOMagic that actually is fairly new -- maybe about 6 months old.
Any ideas?
