I just got a dvd-rom, so I set the

Primary master = the hard disk
Primary slave = the cd-rom

Secondary master = DVD-rom
Secondary slave = Cd-rw

IN the Bios for the primary slave is set to Auto. When I go to my computer the cd-rom is not listed nor does it detect any cd that i put in it. What could be the problem, Is this the right set up

Throw out the cd-rom .
You only need DVD (to read dvd's and CD's) and burner(can also be used as cd-rom)

Have a setup like this:

Primary master (reserved for HDD)
Primary slave (reserved for HDD)
Secondary master (reserved for CD/CDRW/DVD)
Secondary slave (reserved for CD/CDRW/DVD)

Are your jumpers set correctly on the drives? Also, some hard drives, depending on their size, have different jumper configurations once a particular size threshhold is reached, e.g. place the jumper for master in one place if the drive is smaller than xGB, a different place for master is drive larger than xGB. Upshot is, check all jumper settings again. What SYAR2003 said is correct, you really do not need the CDROM, but if you want to keep it you should be able to set it up to work.
