any and all help will be greatly appreciated. I have a Compaq 4626 presario with a 266 p2 ,running win 95, my problem is with the cd rom(mitsumi). THe system will not assign a drive letter and allow use of the drive. When the systen first boots it shows the cd drive a s being there.The system will boot from the cd by way of restore disk. To date I have added new drivers,updated flash memmory, changed the cd from master on its own ide to the slave with the hd, I even put in a different cd rom but result was the same. Please help me before I chuck it out of my window. Thanks

LOL Dont chuck it.
You can manually assign a letter to your cd in device manager. Compacts mostly use cable select as the setting for thier IDE devices(hdd, cd etc.). try this first before chucking.
