CD-ROM Drive

For making a program like iTunes that allows you to listen to music, play cd's, etc on your computer, how do you make the cd drive open using programming?

I am a moderate n00b to programming (i can make a simple program but not to much more). I wan to try and make a knock off version of a media player with my friend.

If you're using Windows XP you can use the IDiskRecorder::Eject() function.
