cd-rom drive on secondary ide will load sometimes, sometimes not, mostly not. I have tried 2 new cd-rom drives, new cables, I have removed ide controllers and restarted, letting drivers reinstall. I have made sure cables are in proper orientation and that jumpers are set properly.
In last try I changed out the primary ide cables with new but same results.
Here is how it is set up, hard drive primary master, cdrw as primary slave,cd-rom drive secondary master. I have switched the cdrw and the cd-rom drive from primary to secondary ide, making sure to change jumpers accordingly.

any ideas appreciated
thanks

a flaky cable can cause the probs you are having...

Replace the IDE cable... preferable with the new style 80 lead (even though it is not needed with CD-Roms and CD-RW as they only do DMA 2 at present)...

Ben

PS - don't forget to reinstall the CHIPSET drivers and Adaptecs ASPI Drivers/Layers...
