My CD-ROM drive was woking on win98 system, but suddenly stopped showing on the explorer. I sure it works, because I use a dual boot system and it works fine under XP Pro.
I tried reinstalling the drivers but that doesn't help

Has it been hidden with Tweak UI? (try the My Computer tab)
Also do CD's autorun if you put one in?

Hi,

Does the drive show up under the CD-ROM category (or equivalent, My Win98 is rusty) in Device Manager? If not, does the HDD controller appear normally there?

Thanks,
JT

try google search for 'noide' for more info.

This should fix it

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VxD\IOS
In the right pane, right-click the NOIDE value, and then click Delete
