HI :)

I use a computer at work (DELL OPTIPLEX GX150). Over the weekend someone messed it up bad. I Went to play a music cd and the computer wouldnt do anything. I went to (my computer) and the cd rom isnt showing up at all. I went to device manager and there is a yellow ex mark beside the cd rom.It says Windows can not load device drivers for this hardware.Corrupt or missing drivers (code 39)I went to driver details and all drivers have green checks beside them. I uninstalled drivers and reinstalled with the same result. Ive checked other computers here at work and the driver details all show the same as mine. Ive downloaded the cd rom drivers from the dell website and still got the same thing after installing. I feel like a system file is missing somewhere but I cant figure what is is. mabe a dll file or something. I know there is a file structure that makes the cd rom work properly, but I don't know what it is.
If anyone can help I would appreciate it.

Thanks :)

You could try System Restore and see if that offers a quick fix.

CD-ROM Access Is Missing and Messages Cite Error Code 31, Code 32, Code 19, or Code 39 After You Remove Easy CD Creator in Windows XP

324129 - HOW TO: Troubleshoot Issues That Occur When You Write Data to a CD-R or CD-RW Optical Disc in Windows XP

Try running ChkDsk to check your drive for errors. Right click your Drive icon/ Properties/ Tools/ Error Checking.

Run the System File Checker program from the Run Box by typing.....Sfc /Scannow in it and have your XP CD handy.

Thanks Linney :)
Awesome help. You are the best !!!

It sounds to me like your IT department disabled all the cd drives. That may be someone’s idea of increasing productivity by keeping people from listing to cd's. If all the computers show the same thing, I wouldn't expect it to be caused by something on your machine. It would have to be something common to all the machines. (IT Department :))

It may have been done to keep people from installing unauthorized software and exposing the company to legal action for having unlicensed software.

p.s. I am also an IT guy.
