I have an IBM Aptiva running Windows 95. When you put in a software CD-ROM, it says device is inaccessible (like there is nothing there). When you put in a music CD, it autoplays and works fine.

from what i know, CDAudio, is just a track of info that all CDroms themsevles can decode, then just thru the audio cable goes to the sound card, not sure how win95 works with it, now would these data CDs be burned/rewritable CDs?, have you tried seeing if it only reads the silver types, IF that is the case(probally not), you CDrom could be like my old CreativeLabs 32X cdrom(i upgraded to a DVDrom 5X/32X Cdrom), i kept trying to read CDs thaty i've burned, and wouldnt read, i threw out about 10 CDs (dont ask , i just happen to have some free ones) well no hope there, it would read the silver ones, well one day, i tried to install something i burned before, and it wouldnt read, well i thought gee, i coulda sworn this was readable before, well couple weeks later, i ordered a creative Labs 5X Dvd-rom, with the decoder, i got it, and i poped in a burned CD, cuz i needed to install something, well it worked, but then i thought back, um, i took the box of the ones i thought were burned badly, and every single one of them was readable again. my point is, if thats your situation, than a lil transitor or something blew in the CDrom, and it wouldnt have enough power to reflect off the CD, silver ones normally are more highly reflective. At least that is to my understanding. well good luck, and let me know if there is more i need to know.
Karl
kb244@bellsouth.net
<a href=
Experienced in , or have messed with : VC++, Borland C++ Builder, VB-Dos, VB1 thru VB6, Delphi 3 pro, Borland C++ 3(DOS), Borland C++ 4.5, HTML, ASP(somewhat), QBasic(hehe, yea it was 4.5 too, least i didnt start with COBOL)

Also; many of the older, slower CD-ROM drives jsut ARE NOT compatible with all CDs & weren't manuefactured to NEARLY the standards used in the newer drives....you might try buying a 24-50x MAX drive somewhere ( <A HREF=" TARGET="_new"> is a good place to start) & you'll find that they're FAR more reliable in reading the CDs :)
-Robherc
robherc@netzero.net
SearchMaster Interface...11-in-1
Wanting to learn Assembler; please e-mail me any tutorials or links for it that are useful to you :)
